Rocket City Dining Report
New at the Table — May 2026
What just opened, what's coming, and what's worth watching
Spring keeps delivering. May brings a mix of long-awaited arrivals and a few spots that quietly opened while everyone was looking the other way — plus a growing watch list for summer that's looking very solid. Here's what's happening at the table right now.
🍽️ Open for Business
📍 Stovehouse, Huntsville
Taking over the former Brewers' Co-Op space at Stovehouse, Southern Kitchen & Home held its grand opening May 6. The timing is right — Stovehouse needed a strong food anchor in that spot, and a Southern kitchen concept fits the vibe of the whole development. One to get to sooner rather than later while the buzz is fresh.
📍 Huntsville, AL
Neon-lit, loud in all the right ways, and already racking up reviews — Dragon Alley is an Asian street food concept built around handmade soup dumplings and noodle dishes. It has the energy of a place that knows exactly what it is and leans into it hard. If you haven't been yet, the soup dumplings alone are worth the trip.
📍 7900 Bailey Cove Road SE, Huntsville, AL 35802
Sister concept to the beloved Viet Cuisine, Viet Taste opened at the end of March in South Huntsville and has been pulling consistent crowds since day one. The menu centers on authentic pho, clay pots, and banh mi. If the original is any indication, this one is going to become a regular stop for a lot of people fast.
📍 12120 County Line Road, Suite A, Madison, AL
Locally and Korean-owned, ChikinJip is Madison's first dedicated Korean fried chicken spot — and it's doing things right. Every piece of chicken is cut in-house, marinated for 24 hours, and coated in house-made sauces you won't find anywhere else in the area. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. This is one of the more interesting openings Madison has seen in a while.
📍 Huntsville, AL
A Yemeni-style cafe and bakery that opened earlier this year and deserves more attention than it's gotten. The menu runs from hot drinks like the Qahwtea latte and Qishr coffee to a cold drink lineup that includes flavored mojitos. Bakery items round it out. A genuinely different kind of coffee shop experience for the Rocket City.
📍 Huntsville, AL
Opened in late January serving organic Filipino and Hong Kong cuisine — pancit bihon, lechon kawali, and other dishes that don't show up anywhere else on the local dining map. If you've been looking for a reason to branch out, this is it. A welcome addition to a food scene that's getting more interesting by the month.
🔜 Coming Soon
📍 20 Town Center Dr NW, Suite 2101, Village of Providence, Huntsville
Chef Randall Baldwin — a protégé of Frank Stitt with 24 years in Birmingham's best kitchens — is bringing an upscale Italian concept to the Village of Providence. Think seasonal ingredients, scratch-made pasta, a curated Italian wine list, and the kind of food built for long dinners. This is a significant arrival for Huntsville's fine dining scene. Watch this one closely.
📍 Bridge Street Town Centre, Huntsville (former Bravo! space)
The popular national Italian chain is moving into the former Bravo! location at Bridge Street. North Italia is a cut above the usual chain — scratch-made pasta, wood-fired dishes, a serious bar program. Bridge Street gets a meaningful upgrade here.
📍 Bailey Cove Road, Huntsville
A gourmet Italian deli, market, and cafe targeting a summer opening. Sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and bakery items — the kind of neighborhood spot South Huntsville has been asking for. This could quietly become one of the year's best additions once it's up and running.
📍 MidCity District & Clift Farm, Madison
Three strong additions still working their way to the finish line. Floriana brings scratch-made Italian from D.C. to MidCity. Grimaldi's coal-fired New York-style pizza hits Clift Farm. And Melt — already a local favorite on Jefferson Street — adds a Madison location for the west side of the county. A strong second half of 2026 is shaping up.
The Rocket City dining scene keeps stacking up. We'll keep tracking every opening, closing, and everything worth your time and money. Got a tip on something we missed? Drop it in the comments. And as always — go eat something good.
