Best Happy Hours
in the Rocket City

Where to be, what to order, and how much it costs — organized by neighborhood so you can find your spot fast.

Happy hour in Huntsville has gotten legitimately good. Between the rooftop bars downtown, the taprooms in Madison, and the gastropubs scattered through MidCity and Research Park, there are more solid after-work options than most people realize — and the deals are real enough to be worth planning around.

This list is organized by zone because geography matters when the clock hits 4:30. Everything here is verified, currently open, and worth your time.

Zone 01

Downtown Huntsville

Rhythm on Monroe

Deal

Sun–Thu, 4–6 PM — Discounts on craft cocktails, beer & wine + happy hour food

The view from the rooftop looking out over Big Spring Park at dusk is genuinely one of the best in the city. Rhythm on Monroe sits inside the Von Braun Center, which makes it the perfect pre-show stop — but it earns its own visit on a quiet Sunday or Tuesday evening when the crowd is manageable and the drinks are affordable. Fire pits, locally-sourced menu, and a cocktail list that holds up without the discount. Taco Tuesdays feature $1 street tacos.

700 Monroe St SW, Downtown Huntsville Mon–Thu 4–10 PM • Fri 4–11 PM • Sat–Sun 11 AM–11 PM

The Martin Bar & Bistro

Deal

Tue–Fri, 11 AM–6 PM — $1 off all drafts • $3 domestics • well drink specials • Half-off wings 3–10 PM

Housed in the original projection room of the historic Martin Theatre — Art Deco terrazzo staircase, 18-foot exposed beam ceilings, open-air garage doors looking out over Washington Street. It's the kind of space that makes you feel like you found something. The happy hour window runs long (11 AM–6 PM), which means it's the right call for an extended early afternoon into evening. Note: some current pricing may vary from what's listed online — verify the well drink specials when you get there.

116 Washington St SE, Downtown Huntsville (2nd floor) Tue–Thu 11 AM–midnight • Fri–Sat 11 AM–2 AM • Sun 10:30 AM–10 PM • Mon: Closed

Stella’s Elixir Lounge

Deal

Daily, 3–7 PM — $3 beers & seltzers • $5 wine (Fri) • $7 mules all day (Thu)

4,000 square feet of rooftop lounge space, cabanas, fire pits, and a chic indoor bar. Open every single day at 3 PM — that daily happy hour window is one of the best in the city because it doesn't disappear on weekends when you actually have time to use it. Four-time "Best Bar" winner in Huntsville (2020, 2021, 2023, 2024). Live music from local artists every Friday starting at 5 PM. Final Friday parties are monthly themed events that turn into genuine late-night experiences. If you only go to one place on this list, Stella's has the most consistent combination of deals, atmosphere, and hours.

Baker & Able

Note

Tue–Sat from 4 PM — Premium cocktail lounge; worth the splurge for the view

This is not a deals spot — it's a special occasion spot that happens to have a great early-evening window. Atop the 106 Jefferson Hotel, Baker & Able is named for Miss Baker and her companion Able, the two primates who survived spaceflight aboard a Huntsville-built Jupiter rocket in 1959. The cocktail program leans into that legacy with crafted drinks and panoramic views of the Rocket City skyline. In winter, they run private igloo reservations on the rooftop. Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday when it's quiet, get there at 4 PM, and watch the city shift from afternoon to evening. It's one of those experiences that makes you appreciate Huntsville.

106 Jefferson St S, Downtown Huntsville (top floor) Tue–Thu 4–11 PM • Fri–Sat 4 PM–midnight • Sun–Mon: Closed bakerandable.com
Zone 02

Madison & Town Madison

Prohibition Rooftop Bar & Grill

Deal

Happy hour specials available — check with the bar for current offers • Open daily 10:30 AM

Town Madison's hottest bar concept right now. Speakeasy vibe downstairs — the 1920s Prohibition theme is well-executed, not kitschy — with a rooftop bar that opens things up and gives you good views and a breeze. The cocktail menu is serious, the food program is solid, and it draws a consistent crowd. Part of Power Brands Hospitality Group (One Eleven, Osteria LuCa, Phil Sandoval's), so the operational quality is there. If you're in Madison after work, this is the first call.

100 Moon Shot Dr, Ste 120, Madison (Town Madison) Mon–Sat 10:30 AM–10 PM • Sun 10:30 AM–9 PM prohibitionhsv.com

Old Black Bear Brewing Company

Deal

Daily taproom pricing on house brews • Rotating seasonal beers on tap

The anchor of Historic Downtown Madison. Old Black Bear has two International Master Brewers on staff — in a region of roughly 120 worldwide — and the Cave City Lager flagship reflects that. This is a "sit down and stay a while" operation: the food program runs from craft burgers to gourmet sandwiches to southern fried catfish, and the pimento cheese is its own reason to show up. Sunday brunch from 10 AM. The kind of community brewery that earns the word community.

212 Main St, Madison (Historic Downtown) Mon–Thu 4–10 PM • Fri–Sat 11 AM–11 PM • Sun 10 AM–4 PM oldblackbear.com

The Beer Hog

Deal

Mon–Fri from 2 PM — 64 craft beers on tap • 300+ bottles • No full sit-down meal required

A Birmingham import that brought its wall-of-taps format to Madison and found a ready audience. The Beer Hog is exactly what a taproom is supposed to be: a full range of rotating craft beers on draft, a casual environment, good patio, and no pressure to order a full meal. If you want to discover something new on tap after work without committing to a restaurant experience, this is the call. The weekday afternoon window starting at 2 PM gives you more runway than most spots in the area.

130 Plaza Blvd, Madison Mon–Wed 2–10 PM • Thu 2–11 PM • Fri noon–midnight • Sat 11 AM–midnight • Sun noon–10 PM
Zone 03

MidCity & Research Park

Connors Steak & Seafood

Deal

Mon–Fri, bar & lounge only — Half-price draft beer, well spirits & house wines • Discounted appetizers

This is the best value proposition on the list for anyone who wants to feel like they're dining well on a weekday budget. Connors is a multiple award winner — "Best Steakhouse in Alabama" by Business Insider, "Best Upscale Restaurant" Huntsville Business Journal 2024, OpenTable Top 100 Most Romantic 2023 — and happy hour at the bar lets you access that world at a significant discount. The voodoo shrimp and fried green tomato appetizers during happy hour are a particularly strong combination. Bar and lounge area only; the dining room runs full price.

345 The Bridge St, Huntsville (Bridge Street Town Centre) Sun–Thu 11 AM–10 PM • Fri–Sat 11 AM–11 PM connorsrestaurant.com

Salt Factory Pub

Deal

Mon–Fri, 3–6 PM — $1 off local draft beers & signature cocktails • Mon: $8 margaritas all day

The English gastropub format — exposed brick, dark hardwood, tufted booths, 50+ draft and bottled brews — landed at MidCity and fit immediately. The happy hour deal is clean and confirmed: $1 off local drafts and signature cocktails Monday through Friday. The patio puts you right in the middle of the MidCity action with the Orion Amphitheatre a short walk away, which makes this a natural pre-show stop. The Braised Lamb Shepherd's Pie has been featured on Food Network. The beer selection is serious enough to make the trip worth it even without a show on the calendar.

6000 Stax St, Huntsville (MidCity District) Mon–Thu 11 AM–10 PM • Fri–Sat 11 AM–11 PM • Sun 11 AM–10 PM salthuntsville.com

Rocket City Tavern

Deal

Mon–Fri, 4–7 PM — Happy hour specials • Monday: $2 tacos all day

Located just outside Redstone Arsenal Gate 9, this is where the defense and tech community decompresses after hours. The open-to-the-outdoors bar is a genuinely good concept — the kind of indoor-outdoor setup that works well in Huntsville weather. The Monday $2 taco special has a local following. Important caveat: Rocket City Tavern is a Monday-through-Friday operation only. Closed Saturday and Sunday. Plan accordingly, because showing up on a Saturday is a wasted trip.

⚠ Weekdays only — Sat & Sun closed
2100 Rideout Rd SW, Huntsville (Redstone Gateway) Mon–Fri 10:30 AM–8 PM • Sat–Sun: Closed rocketcitytavern.com

The Open Bottle

Retail/bar hybrid — buy a draft while shopping for a bottle to take home. A genuinely different format for the Rocket City. Worth knowing about for the wine-forward crowd.

7407 Hwy 72 W, Ste G, Madison. 24 rotating taps, craft cider, mead, karaoke nights, trivia. A welcoming community taproom that's been in Madison since 2019. Tue–Thu 4–9 PM, Fri–Sat 11 AM–10 PM.
